KWL

Kindness trumps greed it asks for sharing. Kindness trumps fear it calls forth gratefulness and love. Kindness trumps even stupidity, for with sharing and love, one learns.

To kick off the new semester for Computing 2X we were asked to start working on a KWL Chart, in which three questions are posited:

  • What do you know?
  • What do you want to learn?
  • What have you learned?

The first two questions are answered at the beginning of the course, with the third completed later on. The excericse, attributed to Ogle (1986), aims to get students reflecting on their own personal process. As always, such practice is as useful for teachers as it is for students.

Ironically, I currently feel very much torn between the two roles of student and teacher.

My initial responses are contained in the file below: I wonder what will appear in the third column in 2 months time?

Edit 05/10/2009: I have now added in the mid-semester review, and the final review, which you can see below. Some of the items I hoped to learn were not covered (in this subject), and some things I did not expect to learn were covered. I have called the third document "Final", even though I know full well my learning is far from complete.
