Digital Video Editing

A master can tell you what he expects of you. A teacher, though awakens your own expectations.

Today I was experimenting with digital video editing, which is a creative process I hope to be able to use with my students. As part of this experiment I created the following video using Sony Vegas. Ideally, when working with primary students I would use less technical software with a more child friendly interface. The aim of this video is to present a portfolio of some of my visual arts creations. The techniques shown here are a great way for students to showcase their work while developing multiliteracy skills.

In brief, the process of making this video included placing a variety of media onto a timeline where it could be manipulated using tools such as fade in, fade out, crop, pan, opacity and text overlay. Vegas allows viewing the work in progress in real time before rendering it into a common media format such as MPEG or AVI.

I decided to release this work under a Creative Commons license, allowing me to reuse the work of others (such as the soundtrack) and in turn allowing others to build on my work.
